Why Remember?

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

In January 2013, a small group of students interested in history -- and especially local history -- teamed up with Victoria High School alumni and the Teacher-librarian to begin researching our school's role in World War I, also known as "The Great War."

This research culminated in a "micro-history" project--based learning course, with the initial scope of focusing on images, documents that help to personalize the experiences of Vic High students and staff who served in the war.

Begin exploring this site by watching the video at right.  You'll get a strong sense of how significant the Great War was to Victoria High School - and why we feel so strongly about preserving and promoting this part of our history.

Please note that this web site is a work in progress with additional information to be added throughout 2013 and 2014 as more information is discovered, and more students become involved in the project.

Video: Victoria High School in the Great War, 1914-1918

This seven-minute student-created video commemorates individuals from Victoria High School who served in the Great War, drawing upon mainly primary-source materials from the school archives.  The intention was to capture the people, emotions, and writings of the time period based on available archived materials.
