Albert Nelson King, born in British Columbia and highest ranking student of Victoria High School in 1906, graduated from McGill University as gold medal winner in Classics. To his natural ability was summoned his earnest
personal effort and application. He went to Oxford as BC Rhodes Scholar for 1912. While in England he enlisted in King Edward's Horse, and was commissioned.
He then joined the Royal Horse Artillery and was posted to France. Lieutenant King was killed in action 10 May 1916. He is buried in Rifle House Cemetery, one of the Commonwealth War Graves Cemeteries, near Ploogstreet, Belgium. His sister Jessie King, also of Victoria High School, was a Nursing Sister. She visited his grave. Sad to relate, she herself died during the First World War, the last Canadian nurse who was a casualty of the War.
